Dead Dugong Washed Ashore in Palk Bay, India (Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu)

Thanks to Officers of Marine Police Station, Manalmelkudi, Pudukkottai district, Tamil Nadu.  Today they informed about the dead, young dugong on the shore of Anthoniarpuram, which is about 1 km from Manalmelkudi.  The specimen was fresh.  No visible wounds, except a scar on the tail, possibly by net.  It was a female dugong with a total body length of 1.4 m.  After the postmortam by forest department,  I took morphological measurements with permission.  The specimen was then buried by forest department on the beach.
